I am from Alabama and have been to this part of Illinois, you can’t tell the difference in rural Alabama and southern Illinois. Sometimes I think the racism and gender bigotry is greater in the rural areas of northern states. Maybe because there has not been as much diversity. Just white Lutheran and Catholics straight people.
You can be from Alabama and still recognize that cruelty is not confined to one region. Too many people want to believe bigotry has an address when it is woven through the whole country.
My heart hurts for every one of these stories but witnessing is the least we can do. Thank you for what you've doing. Preserving these memories is vital. ❤️
