How Trans United Fund verifies information, handles sources, separates fact from allegation, and protects editorial independence.
Purpose
Trans United Fund publishes independent reporting, public-record documentation, and accountability journalism focused on trans survival, housing, healthcare, violence, policy, media harm, and institutional abuse.
Our editorial standards are designed to protect factual accuracy, preserve dignity, distinguish verified information from unresolved claims, and keep affected communities at the center of the record.
Verification
Before publication, we verify material facts whenever possible, including:
names
dates
locations
quotations
public records
court filings
legal actions
official statements
policy documents
verified photographs or video
established outcomes
We do not treat an allegation, accusation, lawsuit, investigation, arrest, or official statement as proof by itself.
When facts remain unresolved, the reporting identifies what is confirmed, what is claimed, and who is making the claim.
Sources
We use primary records whenever available and may also rely on credible reporting, direct statements, verified social posts, public documents, interviews, and other relevant evidence.
Mainstream media may provide factual inputs, but it does not control our framing, structure, analysis, or conclusions.
Sources are represented accurately and are not quoted out of context.
Anonymous and Confidential Sources
Anonymous or confidential sources may be used when the information serves a clear public-interest purpose and the source faces a reasonable risk of harm, retaliation, exposure, or loss of safety.
We evaluate the source’s access to the information, credibility, possible motives, and whether key details can be independently supported.
Confidentiality is considered before publication, but no digital communication method can be guaranteed completely secure.
Fact, Analysis, and Opinion
News reporting, documented analysis, commentary, and opinion must not be presented as though they are the same thing.
Factual claims require support.
Analysis may explain patterns, mechanisms, institutional responsibility, and public consequence, but it must remain grounded in the available record.
Opinion does not permit factual invention.
Victim-Centered Reporting
Our reporting centers trans people and affected communities.
We do not allow institutions, political actors, media narratives, or procedural language to erase documented harm or replace human consequences with abstraction.
We avoid unnecessary graphic detail, spectacle, misgendering, deadnaming, and publication of private information that does not serve a clear editorial purpose.
Identity and Language
We use a person’s correct name, identity, and pronouns when known.
We do not infer gender from appearance, name, or context.
When pronouns are unknown, we use neutral language.
Deadnames are not published unless they are necessary to understand a verified public record and the editorial need clearly outweighs the harm.
Independence
Trans United Fund is an independent publication and mutual-aid platform operating within the RESIST | FIGHT public-interest journalism ecosystem.
Editorial decisions are not controlled by political campaigns, government agencies, corporations, advertisers, donors, or institutions covered in our reporting.
Financial support does not purchase favorable coverage, editorial access, removal of accurate reporting, or influence over publication decisions.
Conflicts of Interest
Any material conflict of interest that could reasonably affect the credibility of a report should be disclosed when relevant.
Writers and editors should not accept gifts, payments, favors, or private benefits in exchange for coverage or favorable treatment.
Corrections and Updates
We correct substantive factual errors transparently.
Material corrections may be accompanied by a note explaining what changed and when.
Minor spelling, formatting, or clarity edits may be made without a formal correction notice when they do not change the meaning of the reporting.
Articles may also be updated as new verified information becomes available. An update does not erase the original record unless removal is required for safety, privacy, legal, or factual reasons.
Use of Artificial Intelligence
Artificial-intelligence tools may assist with research organization, transcription, editing, formatting, headline development, or workflow support.
They do not replace human editorial judgment, source verification, factual review, or accountability.
No AI-generated claim is treated as verified evidence.
